Summary
Placement fertilization method for fruit and berry cultivation was developed during 1997-1999 on red and black currants. The effects of placement distance and density of NPK fertilizer doses on the macronutrient supply and growth of currants were studied in pot and field experiments. The fertilization methods studied were row placement and surface broadcasting of granular NPK fertilizer and placement of NPK fertilizer tablets. The effects of fertilization methods on shoot and root growth of black currant were studied in pot experiments. Field measurements of nutrient salt diffusion from NPK fertilizer granules placed in soil were made by time domain reflectometry (TDR). Accumulation of macronutrients in currant leaves during the growing season was used as an indicator of nutrient supply. The construction of a fertilizer placement equipment was planned and developed on the basis of experimental results and practical experience. A prototype was constructed for further development of the fertilization method and for use in the production of commercial applications.
